Overview Geothermal Energy in Indonesia

Indonesia, a Southeast Asian country, sprawled covering an ocean area of 3,273,810 km² and land area of 1,919,440 km². Geographically, Indonesia is located on a series of rings of fire that stretch along the Pacific plate, commonly known as the Pacific Ring of Fire. This area is one among the most active tectonic plates in the world. The increase in demand for electrical energy in Indonesia has reached 10% per year. Geothermal energy is a new energy resource that can be converted into a source of electrical energy in the form of hot air or steam that is formed through heating in the earth and stored in the earth’s core naturally. The energy is relatively environmentally friendly, and its use does not have a negative impact on the environment or humans.Regardless of weather conditions, geothermal energy can produce electricity consistently which operates 24 hours per day. Geothermal energy cannot be transferred and exported, so it is expected to meet the country’s electricity needs. This energy can generate more electricity over the same period than coal, natural gas, air power generation.
